Activities 2007
Holiday Party – December, 2007
Our Big Sister League Mentor Program Annual Holiday Party was held on December 8th, Saturday from 1-3 p.m. The party actually lasted until almost 5 p.m. because everyone was having such a great time!
The wonderful residents at both houses, Redwood and 4th Avenue, were a great help with every part of the event. This included wrapping gifts for Santa Claus. One resident, Anne, greeted the children in a beautiful new Santa suit. She was so loved by some of our tiny Little Sisters like Shakira, Kiara, Destiny and Jocey, that the girls brought her lunch and treats and helped as little elves. They brought up people to sit on Santa’s lap, helped to get their gifts and helped sort the gifts out.
Halloween – October, 2007
Our Big Sister League Mentor Program Annual Halloween Party was held on Saturday, October 27th, at the Redwood Street House. EVERYONE got into the "spirits" of the day!
Campout – September, 2007
Big and Little Sisters enjoyed an overnight campout at Dos Picos Park, September 29-30.
Picnic – August, 2007
Big and Little Sisters, Board members, Staff and Residents were treated to a barbecue, popcorn, sno-cones, raffle prizes, crafts, face-painting and balloons at a picnic at Balboa Park on August 18th. Little Sisters' "love letters" were made into plaques and presented to their Big Sisters. Each Little Sister received a backpack filled with school supplies from Symitar.
Teen Violence Prevention Workshop – June, 2007
Big and Little Sisters took the Coaster to Oceanside on Saturday June 16th for a Violence Prevention Workshop. Our Little Sisters are exposed to gang activity, drug and crime issues every day – not only on school campuses but in their streets and in their communities.
Myra Nunez from the Tariq Khamisa Foundation shared her young gang-related experiences and she brainstormed with the little sisters to find other alternatives and walk away from potential violence and gang involvement
Kind volunteers transferred all 22 participants from the Oceanside train station to and from the San Diego National Bank office – our workshop hosts.
